Sic Bo, or 'pair of dice' in English, moved to the West during the 19th and 20th centuries, but its origins are many ages old. In ancient China the game was played with two large dice about the size of bricks, shaped of clay, with numbers on the sides. They must have required quite some strength to play with!

Like many of the best games, Pai Gow originated in China, as you'd guess from the name. It probably started in the Song Dynasty, around 960-1279. The name literally means 'make nine' so it's no surprise that the aim was to get the most combinations possible that made 9!
